Think You’re Too Busy for Yoga? You May Just Need a Routine That Fits Real Life

Between work, family responsibilities, social commitments and everything else that fills a typical day, finding time for yourself can sometimes feel impossible. Yoga may be something you genuinely want to practise but the thought of dedicating a large part of your day to it can make getting started feel difficult. The good news is that building a yoga practice does not necessarily mean having hours of free time.

Consistency can be more important than trying to fit an ambitious routine into an already packed schedule. A practice can be structured around the time you realistically have available, whether that is in the morning, after work or as part of your evening routine.

The key is to avoid waiting for the “perfect” time. Your schedule may change from one day to another and your practice can be flexible enough to accommodate those changes. On a particularly busy day, you may choose a shorter session. When you have more time, you can allow yourself a longer practice.

Creating a regular time for yoga can also make it easier to turn it into a habit. Instead of deciding every day whether you have time, treating your practice as a planned part of your routine can make it easier to follow through.

It is also worth letting go of the idea that every session needs to be intense or physically demanding. Yoga can include movement, stretching, breathing and mindful pauses, allowing your practice to serve different purposes depending on what your day requires.

The goal is not to add another source of pressure to your schedule. It is to create a realistic space for yourself within it. You do not need a completely free day to make time for yoga. Sometimes, you simply need to start with the time you already have and make it count.
